Introduced Due to Popular Demand – A New Series of Large Digit Display Indicators

Taking on board suggestions from our customers, particularly in the marine and offshore industry, we are delighted to announce a new range of Large Digit Display indicators for use in crane, lifting and hoisting applications. There are three models within the LD Range: the LD-Process is suitable for process analogue current and voltage signals; the LD-Strain is for use with strain gauge based sensors and the LD-Serial, which is proving to be the most popular, is used as a slave display with connection by RS232 or RS485 interfaces.

There are a number of options available that can be mixed and matched, depending on a client’s particular application. All 3 indicators come in either 4 or 6 digit versions with digit heights ranging from 57-400mm that can be viewed from 25-200metres, respectively. Each indicator can be supplied as a suspension, panel or wall-mounted version, with a wide choice of analogue, relay or digital outputs available. All products are IP65 sealed to ensure they withstand harsh and rugged conditions. Different input signals are available, depending on which indicator is used.

Both the LD-Serial and  LD-Strain indicators are suitable for simple crane weighing applications, hoist and winch monitoring, while the LD-Process is also suitable for use in process plant monitoring.

New Trip Amplifier for Hoist, Winch and Crane Overload Applications Launched

We are pleased to announce the launch of the LCTA series of Load Cell Trip/Relay Amplifiers developed to provide dual volt free relay outputs from a load cell signal. Aimed primarily at OEMs, this latest product provides a cost-effective, simple to use, yet highly reliable amplifier for applications such as hoist overload protection, crane safe lifting control and personnel lifting platform protection.

The new amplifier module has the ability to power a single load cell or load pin or up to four 350W load cells connected in parallel. The volt-free relay outputs have a trip switching current of 10A at 230vac and can be adjusted independently by simply using a reference voltage to determine the adjustment value. For design engineers who wish to connect the LCTA to a remote display, there is also a 0-5v analogue output. Designers at LCM Systems have also included a shunt facility for regular and easy calibration.

To add to the versatility of this new product, the LCTA can be supplied in a number of mounting options including an IP66 sealed plastic or metal case or ready for DIN rail mounting and has field screw terminal connections.  Also, although the standard product requires a 12/24vdc power supply, there is the option with the DIN-mounted version to power from a 48vac supply.

Quality Control – Isle of Wight Roads Melt, Your Application Could Fail

One of the things that we pride ourselves on here at LCM Systems is to guarantee that all products that leave our premises are very much ‘fit for purpose’ and have undergone the required quality control checks. But are all companies so diligent? It doesn’t seem so. I am always warning companies that when buying load cells and systems that are used in safety critical applications, price can’t always be the overriding factor when making a choice.

And it was brought home to us here in the Isle of Wight when in two warm spells in the Spring and Summer of 2012 our roads melted. What? yep, the roads melted. Does anyone remember it being that hot? I certainly don’t. Well, it turns out that there was a ‘material failure’ with the road surfaces and even in reasonably expected summer temperatures, the roads melted. There is a report here. It cost the contractors a lot of money to put it right. Luckily no lives were put at risk, but that wouldn’t be the case with many of your load cells.

New Intermediate Capacities Now Available for LCM Systems’ Link Load Cells

By popular demand we are pleased to offer intermediate capacities of our popular RILL and SILL Link Load cells. These new link load cells may offer a more economic solution for customers in particular applications and, importantly, these new capacities now fall in line with the ratings of industry standard shackle sizes and ratings. The series has also been extended to include load ratings from 1 tonne up to 500 tonne.

Manufactured from high tensile aluminium, both the SILL and RILL are lightweight, while the shackle holes are steel bushed to ensure they are rugged and hardwearing. Both product ranges are easy to install and can be matched to standard shackle sizes. The Self Indicating Link Load Cell has an integral display and the applied weight or force can be shown in t, kg, lb or kN, as selected by the user. A built-in alarm will also warn the operator when an applied level is met. The RILL link load cells use a license free 2.4Ghz radio and are supplied with a battery powered handheld indicator that displays the load in tonne. They can be supplied as a simple Link or LCM’s technical engineers can integrate them into more powerful radio systems.

LCM Systems Launches New Generation Relay Module for T24 Wireless Telemetry System

We are pleased to announce the launch of the latest addition to the T24 wireless telemetry system for multiple data acquisition in real time. The T24-RM1 is a new generation of relay module that offers 2 power relays each of which can be assigned a set point and triggered from either one T24 acquisition module or a summed group of up to 8 units.

The T24-RM1 dual 240Vac 5A relay modules are capable of mains power switching and have been designed as limit or window alarms for the T24 acquisition units. The relays can be latched and a digital input or external command can be used to reset them. An alarm signal relay is operated if communications is lost or other selectable errors occur. This alarm output can be silenced by a contact free digital input or external command.

The T24 system has been built using a worldwide, licence free 2.4GHz direct sequence spread spectrum (DSSS) communication protocol that guarantees high integrity, error free digital data transmission. This can also co-exist with other commonly used protocols such as Zigbee, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and ETSI. The modules have internal antennas that deliver a wireless range of up to 200m (650ft) are supplied as standard in IP65 sealed ABS cases, with a DIN rail option available, if required.

With wireless configuration and calibration, T24-RM1 is easy to set up via a PC and the user-friendly Windows package T24 toolkit software. LCM Systems can offer a fully integrated system solution comprising of load cells and wireless telemetry products, packaged into a fully functional bespoke solution to meet customers’ specific requirements.

New Active Repeater for T24 Wireless Telemetry System Extends Range and Coverage

We are pleased to announce the launch of the latest addition to the T24 wireless telemetry system for multiple data acquisition in real time. The T24-AR is a wireless active repeater designed to increase the range and overall coverage of the system, the major benefit being its ability to enable T24 modules to transmit around obstructions.

The T24 itself is a versatile set of products, based around proprietary acquisition devices that can be mixed and matched to provide high quality remote readings for critical applications. The acquisition modules can provide data to multiple output devices and the new T24-AR can effectively double the radio range as the messages are repeated once. Without the use of the repeater, the T24 has a range of up to 200m (650ft) and although the use of multiple repeaters will not increase the range beyond 400m (1300ft), the area of coverage can be extended by combining multiple acquisition modules in strategic positions. The T24-AR acts as a transparent link between these modules and the base station or handheld display.

A number of acquisition modules are available. For strain gauges, there is a five-wire measurement device – the T24-SA, while the T24-VA voltage acquisition accepts 0-10V, and the T24-IA accepts 0-20mA, suitable for a wide range of sensors with a 4-20mA output. This means that a wide range of sensors can be wirelessly monitored including load cells, inclinometers, accelerometers, displacement LVDT, pressure, temperature, humidity, pH and shock.

The Repeater is powered either by alkaline ‘D’ cells or an external power supply and is rated to IP65 and NEMA4 protected. As with all modules in the T24 system, the T24-AR is easy to configure via a PC and the user-friendly Windows package T24 toolkit software.

Don’t forget we can offer a fully integrated system solution comprising of load cells and wireless telemetry products, packaged into a fully functional bespoke solution to meet customers’ specific requirements.
